About the barn kids.

We have been very fortunate over the years to have worked with some outstanding young people in our community. Because Matt is the Ag-teacher at Claremore High School we've been able to form working relationships with one or two of his students each year who are interested in showing livestock yet do not have land or a barn for them at their home. This started while Roxane was still in high school and has continued to the present. It seemed like a waste to have the show barn and facilities here just gathering dust, so we opted for an active and busy barn filled with kids who were willing to work in exchange for a place for their livestock. We've had mostly girls known as the BHB's aka Beacon Hill Babes or is that last word another word that starts with a B? Depends on who you ask! There have been some young men too. In fact, they may be the ones you need to ask what that B stands for! There's been a lot of hard work, sweat, elbow grease and midnight oil burned in that barn, but the young folks who have spent summers and evenings after school have sure been a great group to work with and mentor! They are getting to be quite an alumni group and have evolved their own rites of passage and sense of fraternity too. As we look at the group, we can count amongst their numbers a variety of professions - teacher, insurance agent, large animal veterinarian, physical therapist, nurse, attorney and several who have volunteered to serve in the military. They have all gone on to technical school, college or grad school and we are super proud of them all!
