About the Ranch
Our story starts when John Millikan moved from Missouri and settled near Langley, OK building the foundation for the ranch soon thereafter. The ranch has been home to the family and the herd since 1909. The land and the cattle have been handed down from one generation to the next with each generation refining the herd and adding their own mark. Though the names have changed, John & Gertrude Millikan – Floyd & Wilma Sloan – and now our Gebhart / Boyer crew, the commitment to the cattle and the land remains constant. Like many families managing multi-generation cattle herds, our work is a collaborative effort. We all have town jobs. We all have ranch jobs in pursuit of raising the “good ones” and caring for the land. Each member of the family brings a specific set of skills, but we all work toward a common goal.
Though Richard passed away in May of 2015, his presence and influence remain integral every day. Susan and Richard both grew up in families that taught them to love the cattle and respect the land. As fourth generation ranchers, the Gebhart family cares for land that’s been in the family over 100 years. They are committed to preserving the ranch for generations to come. As a family, the Gebhart’s manage the herd with an eye towards raising modern, efficient Hereford breeding cattle. Like everyone in the family, Susan has a “town job” working for a medical education and meetings management firm. She remains active in a variety of industry-related organizations including the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, Oklahoma Hereford Association, Oklahoma Club Calf Association, American Hereford Association, Rogers County Fair Board and various shows & fairs in Oklahoma.
Susan and Richard were married for 37 years – yes, that’s right – since Lassie was a very small dog! They went from being young whippersnappers to reading glasses & joint supplements in what seemed like the blink of an eye. All the while having fun and counting their blessings. Susan will tell you she’s traveled the world enough to know she likes no place better than her home place in Oklahoma surrounded by Hereford cattle!
Matt & Erica
After years of raising and showing cattle in junior shows around Oklahoma, Erica left home for her favorite town on earth – Stillwater, America and Oklahoma State University. We’re not sure if she found Matt or Matt found her, but it wasn’t too long before Matt Boyer from Hunter, OK joined the family. They graduated from OSU with degrees in Animal Science and Ag-Education, settled at the ranch in Langley, and made their home 100 feet from where Erica's great great grandparents’ house once stood. Matt is the Ag Ed Instructor at Claremore High School and Erica will graduate nursing school in May 2016. She also works for a medical education and meetings management firm. Matt and Erica are in charge of the day to day management of the herd with their two children, McKenzie and Gus. Both Erica and Matt are also active in a number of cattle and agriculture related organizations including the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, the Oklahoma Hereford Association, the Oklahoma Club Calf Association, and the American Hereford Association.
Roxane & Ethan
After many years showing more heifers & steers than we can count, Roxane moved to OSU, graduating with a degree in Animal Science. She then became a paralegal, worked for a law firm in Tulsa, OK and later went to the University of Tulsa College of Law, graduating with a juris doctorate degree. While attending law school, Roxane and Ethan Mock met and tied the knot in May 2017. Ethan graduated from OSU with a degree in Agribusiness and a juris doctorate degree from the University of Tulsa. Rox and Ethan both currently practice as attorneys for firms in downtown Tulsa, OK. During her years as a junior exhibitor, Rox served on several boards including the National Junior Hereford Association Board. She closed out her junior show career at the 2010 JNHE being selected as both Reserve Champion Senior Showman and Herdsman of the Year. Ethan grew up in the rodeo and horse industries. Ethan’s family’s legacy is founding and running Mock Brothers Saddlery in Sand Springs, OK. Rox and Ethan are both currently involved in the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association, American Hereford Association, and Oklahoma Bar Association. Although Rox and Ethan are currently getting on their feet as young attorneys, they have dreams of purchasing land and running cows in the near future.
We support FFA !
When you have an Ag teacher in the family it's probably not a big surprise that everyone in the family is a serious supporter of FFA. The powerful impact this organization has on youth leaders in agriculture is worthy of our support and respect. I cannot imagine what Erica, Matt and Roxane would be without their FFA background. We are looking forward to Kenzie and Gus wearing the blue & gold someday!
